Countdown to A and AS level Results Day
What A-level subjects should you pick?
Whilst subjects such as Geography, Economics and Business Studies have a bearing on Built Environment degrees, when it comes to specific subjects for A-level requirements, the majority of RICS accredited courses are reasonably flexible. Obviously entry grades do vary from one university to another – at Nottingham Trent and Sheffield Hallam it’s a minimum of 280 UCAS tariff points from a minimum of two A-levels or equivalent; Northumbria requires 300 points; Oxford Brookes – grades ABB-BBB; Reading – AAB from 3 A Levels or ABBb from 3 A Levels and 1 AS Level; and Cambridge asks for A*AA. Don’t make life hard for yourself – simply choose subjects you enjoy, the only real caveat to be aware of is that General Studies tends not to count and investment or quantity surveying have a stronger lean towards maths.
If you are doing A levels, the results are calculated to the following UCAS points:
A = 120
B = 100
C = 80
D = 60
E = 40
U = No UCAS points
Your AS level grades are half the A level, but you can only add the subject you dropped not any subject you continued.
So this will be
A* = Zero as there are no A*;s at this level
A = 60
B = 50
C = 40
D = 30
E = 20
U = No UCAS points
So if a requires you to get 280 UCAS points from 3 A levels you could get A, B, D or A, C, C. If they said you need 280 UCAS points from both A and AS levels you could get B, C, C and a separate AS at E etc. etc. However where grades are listed there is no deviation despite A, A, D being he same points tariff as B, B, B they might not get you on to the course.
